hell, washington
hell, washington was established by two men, harrison dolson and adam couric in 1896. couric had been ousted from his former community, labeled as a harbinger of bad things, yet his friend never bought into those accusations. they staked a claim on the land now known as hell, washington. the specifics are fuzzy, as it never made it into the written record, but the family that arrived first to the land ultimately ended up. eager to protect their reputations and good names, the duo shifted the blame for the tragedy onto patrick clifton, who had been traveling alongside them. it is because of this that neither the couric or dolson families are able to leave the town. until they admit to the sins of their fathers, the loss of not only literal lives, but the life of the man falsely accused who spent the rest of his days in jail - the town won't let them leave. the innocent blood spilled was an unwitting sacrifice that awakened odd energies. what that choice tapped into was the mystical and supernatural forces that makes hell what it is today.
despite this curse, couric and dolson were to build the town from the ground up. help from surrounding towns helped hell, washington flourish into the coastal town it is today. the views helped attract tourism which still makes up most of the town's economy today. during the spring and summer, visitors flood in for whale migrations, seafood festivals, and beach bonfires. during the autumn and winter,"storm tourists" come for front row views of towering waves crashing against basalt cliffs, sipping coffee in warm cafés while the wind howls outside. hell's halloween festivities are renowned globally and are considered the cashcow that keeps hell beautiful for the upcoming year.
